Going racing and putting your moto-skills to the ultimate test is one of the most exciting—and most satisfying—things you can do in off-road riding. And there’s no shortage of racing types to choose from, ranging from AMA Pro-level Supercross and Motocross to your local club’s enduro or hare scrambles event. Below are a few of the more typical racing classes, and the Honda CR, CRF and XR models that compete (and often win) in them. |

 Supercross, Motocross & Arenacross |
|
AMA Supercross, Motocross and Arenacross are without doubt the pinnacle of professional dirt bike racing. Supercross, or indoor stadium racing, consists of one 20-lap (250cc class) and 15-lap (125cc class) main event, with the final field (20 riders in 250cc, 22 in 125cc) filled from heat race qualifiers. Arenacross is smaller-scale, Supercross-style racing, similar in format, but with the number of participants in heat and final races varying by facility size. Motocross, on the other hand, heads outdoors to natural terrain courses, where the racing is comprised of two motos per class (250cc and 125cc) per event. Each moto consists of 40 riders and is 30 minutes plus 2 laps in duration. |

Enduro, Hare Scrambles, Baja and more |
|
The AMA also sanctions all sorts of trail-racing events, ranging from Enduro (where youre racing against the clock, with penalty points assessed for missing checkpoints) and Hare Scrambles (where you try to complete as many laps as possible in two hours on a closed course) to Hare & Hound (racing to be the first to finish after hitting a set number of mandatory checkpoints) and Desert (sometimes laps, sometimes straight-line courses ranging from 250 miles to the Baja 1000, usually campaigned by two- to four-man teams). |
